Voxel Tool Box Mode
The Box Mode is a multi-step Voxel Tool Mode that edits voxels inside a box-shaped area of a voxel grid.
Using the Box Mode
The workflow for working with Box Mode includes three steps:
- Drag the base of the box.
- (Optional) Resize or move the box.
- Apply the box.
Steps to Drag the Box Base
- Activate a voxel grid.
- Select a Voxel Tool.
- Activate the Box Mode.
- Move the cursor over a face of a solid voxel. This will display visual feedback to help you determine the orientation and location of the voxel face.
- Click the voxel to set the start corner of the box.
- Drag the mouse to move the end corner of the box in the 2D plane indicated by the visual helper.
- Release the mouse button to finalize the box base.
Tip
Hold down the Shift key while dragging to constrain the base size to a perfect square.
When you hold down the Alt key while dragging, the box will be drawn from the center point instead of from the corner.
You can also combine these keys while dragging to create a square base from the center.
As long as the box is not applied, it can still be resized and repositioned, which is indicated by a colored bounding box.
Steps to Resize the Box
- Click and drag on any side of the cube to resize it in that direction. Drag down to expand the box, or drag up to shrink it.
Steps to Move the Box
- Hold down the
Ctrlkey and use the Gizmo that appears to drag the box to a new position. - Alternatively, use the arrow keys to move the box in increments of 1 (or 10 if you also hold down the
Shiftkey).
Steps to Apply the Box
As long as the colored bounding box is displayed, the box can still be modified or canceled.
To apply the box:
- Click on a side of the box.
To apply the current box and start a new one:
- Click on a voxel outside of the box and drag to draw a new box base.
To cancel the box:
- Press
Esc.
The box is automatically applied when you try to perform an action that doesn't affect the box, such as changing the tool or mode.
Changing the Shape
By default, all voxels that fit into the dragged box will be processed when the box is applied. However, you can also choose from five other shapes to process the box: sphere, pyramid, cone, cylinder, and slope. The active operation is only performed on the voxels that make up the selected shape. For example, if you are using the Erase Tool, you could remove voxels in the shape of a pyramid.
You can change the shape at any time using the dropdown menu in the Tool Options Bar.
Tip
You can change the orientation of the shape inside the box using the Rotate 90° or Flip buttons on the Action Bar.
Tip
If you are using the slope or pyramid shape, you can hold down the Shift key while resizing the box to snap the size at perfect angles.
