Starting a New Voxel Layer
Creating a new Voxel Layer is a straightforward process that allows you to begin adding voxels to your scene. This section will guide you through the steps to start a new Voxel Layer using the Draw Tool.
Overview
You can use the Draw Tool to add the first voxels to an empty Voxel Layer. There are two primary methods for starting a new layer:
- Drawing on the Ground: This will start the new Voxel Layer on top of the ground. Make sure the ground is turned on for this.
- Using an Existing Voxel Object: This will draw new voxels adjacent to that object. In this case, the new Voxel Layer will automatically align with the local axis of the existing Voxel Object, including any rotation and scaling.
Empty Voxel Layers are easily identifiable by a special icon rendered in the Scene View, making it simple to locate where you can start adding voxels.
Steps to Starting a New Voxel Layer
Follow these steps to create and start working with a new Voxel Layer:
- Activate an Empty Voxel Layer: Activate an existing empty Voxel Layer or create a new one.
- Activate the Draw Tool: Ensure the Draw Tool is active to start adding voxels.
- Choose Your Drawing Mode: Select either Box Mode or Rectangle Mode based on your desired voxel shape.
- Position the Start Voxel: Move your mouse over the ground or a solid voxel from another Voxel Object to visualize the orientation and position of the starting voxel.
- Utilize the Draw Tool: Follow the instructions provided on the corresponding Tool Mode page to effectively add voxels to your new layer.
TIP
Instead of selecting an empty voxel grid, you can create a new Voxel Layer, which will be automatically activated. The default shortcut for this action is Ctrl+J.
