Voxel Tools โ€‹

Voxel tools define the action that is applied to the active object while a voxel grid is active.
The selected tool mode then determines how that action is placed or expanded.

Available Tools โ€‹

Draw ToolDraw ToolAdds voxels to the active object.
Erase ToolErase ToolRemoves existing voxels from the active object.
Paint ToolPaint ToolApplies the active color.
Material ToolMaterial ToolApplies the active material.
Select ToolSelect ToolSelects voxels for later editing.

Core Editing Tools โ€‹

Draw Tool โ€‹

Use the Draw Tool to add voxels to the active object. The exact result depends on the active tool mode.

Erase Tool โ€‹

Use the Erase Tool to remove voxels from the active object. This is the quickest way to cut back shapes and clean up rough forms.

Paint Tool โ€‹

Use the Paint Tool to assign the active color to existing voxels without changing their shape.

Material Tool โ€‹

Use the Material Tool to assign the active material to existing voxels. Materials control properties such as metallic, roughness, emissive, and alpha.

Utility Tools โ€‹

Select Tool โ€‹

Use the Select Tool when you want to isolate part of a voxel grid and then transform, filter, or process only that part.

Stamp Tool โ€‹

The Stamp Tool places a reusable voxel pattern into the active object. See Stamp Tool.

Crop Tool โ€‹

The Crop Tool trims a voxel layer to the selected region. See Crop Tool.

Eyedropper โ€‹

The Eyedropper samples color and material from existing voxels. See Selection and Eyedropper.

Automatic Grid Resizing โ€‹

The following tool options are available at the bottom of the toolbar:

Auto Extend โ€‹

When enabled, Foxel automatically extends the voxel grid if a voxel tool operation would go beyond its current bounds.

Auto Optimize Size โ€‹

When enabled, Foxel automatically removes empty outer space from the voxel grid after editing.

The voxel grid is not reduced below 8 x 8 x 8, so there is always some room left to continue working.

Tool Choice in Practice โ€‹

A simple way to think about the main tools is:

  • Draw builds form
  • Erase removes form
  • Paint changes color
  • Material changes material
  • Select isolates an area

Once that is clear, the next important choice is the tool mode.
