Introduction to Voxel Modeling โ€‹

Voxel Modeling is Foxel's main workflow for creating and editing 3D voxel content.
You work directly inside the voxel grid of a Voxel Layer, adding, removing, painting, and transforming voxels as needed.

Voxel Modeling is used in:

What Makes Voxel Modeling in Foxel Special โ€‹

In Foxel, a voxel is more than just a colored cube. A voxel can store:

  • a color index
  • a material index
  • a shape

This means you can combine indexed color, per-voxel materials, and non-cubic voxel shapes such as wedges to build more detailed models.

What You Edit โ€‹

A Voxel Layer contains one editable voxel grid.
That grid can be positioned in space like any other object, but the editing itself happens inside the layer's local voxel coordinates.

Typical Workflow โ€‹

A common voxel workflow looks like this:

  1. Create or select a Voxel Layer.
  2. Activate its voxel grid.
  3. Choose a tool and tool mode.
  4. Draw, erase, paint, or select voxels.
  5. Transform the result or run additional operations.
  6. Use filters when you want to change color or material data in bulk.
