Setting Up Cameras

Setting up cameras is essential for capturing your voxel scenes from different perspectives. Foxel offers two primary camera types: Orbit and First Person. Each type has unique controls and functionalities, allowing you to create dynamic and engaging views of your artwork.

Camera Types

Orbit Camera

The Orbit Camera allows you to rotate around a central point, providing a flexible way to view your scene from various angles. This camera type is ideal for showcasing your voxel art in a 3D space.

First Person Camera

The First Person Camera simulates a first-person perspective, enabling you to navigate through the scene as if you were inside it. This camera type is perfect for immersive experiences and exploring your voxel environments.

Creating Cameras

You can create a new camera in Foxel using two different methods:

  1. Menu Method:

    • To create an uninitialized camera, go to Object > Create > Orbit Camera or First Person Camera. This will add a new camera to your scene that you can configure as needed.
  2. View Options Bar Method:

    • To create a camera that captures the current view, first adjust the scene by moving the camera with your mouse to the desired position and angle. Then, click on the Camera button in the View Options Bar and select Create New Orbit Camera from View or First Person Camera. This method initializes the camera based on your current perspective, allowing for a seamless transition into your new view.

Preparing Cameras for Rendering

To ensure your renders achieve the desired quality and dimensions, each camera in Foxel includes a Resolution property. This setting defines the output image size, which is essential for producing high-quality visuals that meet your project's requirements.

Custom Render Settings

In addition to resolution, each camera can control its own set of render effects and environmental settings. These properties can be customized through the Inspector, allowing you to tailor the visual configuration of each camera to suit your artistic vision.

To manage render settings profiles, use the menu button next to the Environmental Settings and Render Effects headlines. Here, you can create a new profile from the current settings, load an existing profile, or save your current settings to an existing profile. This flexibility enables you to maintain consistency in your visual style while saving time on setup.

Animation with the Timeline

Most render settings can be animated using keyframe animation, just like any other property in Foxel. By utilizing the Timeline, you can create dynamic changes in your scene over time, enhancing the storytelling aspect of your voxel art and adding depth to your renders.
