Working with Files

Working with Foxel also means working with multiple files of different types, such as Voxel Scenes or Color Palettes. Foxel's interface allows you to easily view and edit these files.

On this page, you can learn how to perform basic file editing tasks such as renaming, duplicating, and deleting files, and how to select, filter, and sort files.

Renaming, Duplicating and Deleting Files

Please note that renaming, duplicating or deleting files using Windows Explorer will not be reflected automatically and may result in data inconsistencies. To manage files, always use the actions provided by the Foxel interface, as described below.

Files named default or project are considered vital and cannot be renamed, duplicated, or deleted.

To rename files:

  1. Select the files you want to rename.
  2. Right-click on your selection.
  3. Choose Rename from the context menu.
  4. In the dialog that appears, enter the new name and click OK.

The new name must adhere to the naming rules for files and objects in Foxel.

To duplicate files:

  1. Select the files you want to duplicate.
  2. Right-click on your selection.
  3. Choose Duplicate from the context menu.

To delete files:

  1. Select the files you want to delete.
  2. Click on the Delete button Delete
  3. Confirm that you want to delete the files.

DANGER

Deleting files is permanent and cannot be undone.

Selecting Files

To select a single file:

  1. Click on the file.

All previously selected files will be deselected.

To select another file:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the file.

To deselect a file:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the file.

To select a range of files:

  1. Click on a file to select it.
  2. Hold down the Shift key and click on a second file.

This selects both files and all files listed between them.

To select all files:

  1. Right-click a file.
  2. Choose Select All from the context menu.

To deselect all files:

  1. Right-click a file.
  2. Chose Deselect from the context menu.

To invert the file selection:

  1. Right-click a selected file.
  2. Chose Invert Selection from the context menu.

This will select all unselected files and deselect all selected files.

Filtering Files

To filter files by name:

  1. Enter two or more characters in the search box 1️⃣.

This will return all files with the entered characters in their names.

To filter items by a property, such as category or modification date

  1. Select an option from the drop-down menu 2️⃣.

To sort files by name or modification date:

  1. Click on either Name or Modification Data of the list header 1️⃣.

To reverse the sorting order:

  1. Click again on either Name or Modification Data.

Displaying Files as List or Icon Grid

Some file lists can display their items as an icon grid in addition to the basic list mode. This provides a thumbnail preview of the file.

To switch between list and icon mode:

  1. Click on the corresponding display mode button 1️⃣.
