Scene View

The Scene View is a central component of the Foxel workspace, providing users with a visual representation of their voxel environment. It allows for the manipulation and arrangement of objects within the scene, enabling users to create and edit their voxel projects effectively.

Key Features

  • 3D Visualization: The Scene View displays your voxel creations in a three-dimensional space, allowing for a more immersive editing experience.
  • Modeling: Users can create and modify voxel models directly within the Scene View, utilizing various tools to shape and refine their designs.
  • Object Manipulation: Select, transform, and arrange objects within the scene to achieve the desired layout and composition.
  • Material Application: Apply materials to voxels or objects and test how they interact with light, enhancing the visual quality and realism of your creations.
  • Lighting and Environmental Settings: Set up lighting, cameras, and render effects to prepare your scene for rendering to file.
  • Animation Editing and Previewing: Edit and preview animations directly within the Scene View, allowing for real-time adjustments and fine-tuning of animated elements.

Navigating the Scene View is intuitive and can be accomplished using a combination of mouse and keyboard controls:

  • Panning: Use the middle mouse button to pan across the scene. Alternatively, hold the spacebar and click the left mouse button to pan.
  • Rotating: Hold the right mouse button to rotate the view around the scene.
  • Zooming: Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the scene, or hold the Alt key while using the right mouse button to zoom.
  • Rotate to Perpendicular View: Use the View Cube located in the top left corner to click on its sides and rotate the view to a perpendicular angle.
  • Rotate to Closest Perpendicular View: Press Shift + F to quickly rotate the view to the closest perpendicular angle.
  • Flythrough Mode: While holding the right mouse button, use the W, A, S, and D keys to navigate through the scene. Press Q to move down and E to move up.
  • Framing Objects: Press the F key to frame the selected object, centering it in the Scene View.

Rendering Options

Adjusting how objects are rendered in the Scene View can significantly enhance your editing experience. There are two main ways to modify rendering settings:

Quick Adjustments

You can make quick adjustments via the View Options Bar. This panel allows you to toggle various rendering features, including:

  • Render effects like bloom and ambient occlusion
  • Ground and base grid visibility
  • Camera projection and controls mode

Detailed Adjustments

For more detailed rendering adjustments, access the Advanced View Options Panel. This panel provides in-depth settings that allow you to customize the rendering of your scene to suit your preferences and project requirements.
