Editing Keyframes โ€‹

Frame-by-frame animation in a Voxel Movie is built from Voxel Keyframes.

A Voxel Keyframe is a Voxel Layer with an additional Duration property that defines how long it is shown in the animation.

Keyframe Editing Basics โ€‹

Voxel Movies are simpler than Voxel Scenes and are focused on editing one keyframe at a time.

Important differences:

  • Voxel Keyframes only
Voxel Movies can only contain Voxel Keyframes.

  • No parenting, rotation, or scaling
Keyframes are edited as independent voxel objects.

  • One editable keyframe at a time
Only the current keyframe is shown for editing.

  • Same voxel editing tools
Keyframes are edited with the same voxel tools used elsewhere in Foxel.

Selecting a Keyframe โ€‹

You can select the keyframe you want to edit in two ways:

  • Hierarchy
Select the keyframe in the Hierarchy.

  • Timeline
Move to the frame you want in the Timeline. Foxel selects the displayed keyframe automatically.

Adding a Keyframe โ€‹

To add a new keyframe:

  • click Add Voxel Keyframe below the Hierarchy, or
  • use Object > Add Voxel Keyframe.

The new keyframe is inserted after the current keyframe and starts as a copy of it.

Setting the Duration โ€‹

The duration of a keyframe defines how many frames it is displayed.

You can change the duration in two ways:

  • Inspector
Select the keyframe and edit its Duration property in the Inspector.

  • Menu Command
    Use Object > Set Duration.

Editing the Keyframe Content โ€‹

Once a keyframe is selected, you can edit its voxel content directly with the normal voxel editing tools.

A common workflow is:

  1. Select or create a keyframe.
  2. Adjust its duration.
  3. Edit its voxel content.
  4. Move to another frame or keyframe and continue.
