Using Object Layers โ
Object Layers help you organize scene content and manage larger scenes more efficiently.
They can be used to group related objects, control visibility, and quickly select sets of objects. This is especially useful when a scene contains many elements and you want to focus on only part of it.
Understanding Object Layers โ
Foxel supports seven Object Layers.
- Object Layer 0 is the default Object Layer. All newly created objects are assigned to it unless you move them to a different Object Layer.
- Object Layers 1โ6 are colored. When an object is assigned to one of these Object Layers, the corresponding color is shown next to the object in the Hierarchy.
This makes it easier to identify and manage related objects in complex scenes.
Managing Object Layer Visibility โ
At the top of the Hierarchy, you will find seven buttons corresponding to the seven Object Layers.
Click an Object Layer button to toggle the visibility of all objects assigned to that Object Layer.
This is useful when you want to focus on a specific part of the scene without changing the scene structure itself.

Assigning Objects to an Object Layer โ
To assign one or more objects to an Object Layer:
- Select the objects you want to assign.
- Right-click the selection.
- Choose Add to Object Layer > Object Layer 1 or the desired Object Layer.
Every object must belong to an Object Layer. To remove an object from a colored Object Layer, assign it back to Object Layer 0.
Hint
For a quicker way to assign selected objects to an Object Layer, hold Shift and click the corresponding Object Layer button.
Selecting All Objects on an Object Layer โ
To select all objects assigned to a specific Object Layer:
- Right-click in the Hierarchy.
- Choose Select All Objects on Object Layer > Object Layer 1 or the desired Object Layer.
Hint
For a quicker way to select all objects on an Object Layer, hold Ctrl and click the corresponding Object Layer button.
Notes โ
- Each object belongs to exactly one Object Layer.
- Object Layers are useful for organization, visibility control, and fast selection.
- Object Layers do not replace the scene hierarchy.
- Use the Hierarchy to manage parent-child relationships and object order.
