Using Object Layers
Object layers are a powerful organizational tool that allows you to manage and categorize your objects effectively.
Understanding Object Layers
With support for seven object layers, you can easily control the visibility and organization of your objects.
- Object Layer 0: This is the default layer where all new objects are created. If you do not assign an object to a specific object layer, it will automatically belong to Object Layer 0.
- Object Layers 1-6: These layers are colored and can be used to group objects visually. When an object is assigned to a colored object layer, the corresponding color will be displayed next to the object in the Hierarchy Panel, making it easy to identify its layer.
Managing Object Layer Visibility
At the top of the Hierarchy Panel, you will find seven buttons corresponding to each object layer. Clicking on a button will toggle the visibility of all objects assigned to that object layer. This feature is particularly useful for focusing on specific parts of your scene without distraction.
Adding Objects to Object Layers
To assign an object to a specific object layer:
- Select the objects you want to move to a different object layer.
- Right-click on the selection and choose Add to Object Layer > Object Layer 1 (or the desired object layer).
Remember, every object must belong to one of the object layers. If you want to remove an object from a colored object layer, simply add it back to Object Layer 0.
Hint
For a quicker method to add objects to an object layer, hold down the Shift key and click the corresponding object layer button.
Selecting All Objects on an Object Layer
To select all objects assigned to a specific object layer:
- Right-click in the Hierarchy Panel and choose Select All Objects on Object Layer > Object Layer 1 (or the desired object layer).
Hint
Alternatively, you can use a shortcut: hold down the Ctrl key and click the corresponding object layer button to select all objects on that object layer instantly.
