Working with Pixel Tools

The primary function of the Pixel Tools is to modify pixels. Each Pixel Tool employs a specific method for editing, known as the editing operation. For instance, the Select Tool is used to select pixels, while the Erase Tool removes existing pixels.

The active Pixel Tool Mode determines how the editing operation of the Pixel Tool is applied.

General Workflow

The general workflow for editing pixels with Pixel Tools is as follows:

  1. Activate the pixel grid you wish to edit.
  2. Select the Pixel Tool from the Toolbar that corresponds to the desired editing operation, such as the Select Tool for selecting pixels.
  3. Choose the Tool Mode from the Tool Options Bar that best achieves your intended result. For example, while you can draw a rectangle in Point Mode, using Rectangle Mode would be more effective.
  4. Utilize the tool as described in the respective Tool Mode documentation.

Shortcuts

All Pixel Tools, except for the Select Tool, can select the color and material of pixels. Additionally, all Pixel Tools allow for the quick movement of selected objects or pixels.

Steps to Select the Color and Material from Pixels

  1. Select a Pixel Tool.
  2. Hold down the Alt key.
  3. Click on a pixel.

This provides a shortcut to avoid constantly switching back and forth to the Eyedropper Tool.

Steps to Move Objects and Pixels

  1. Select a Pixel Tool.
  2. Hold down the Ctrl key.
  3. Click and drag to freely move the selected object or pixels.
  4. Release the mouse button to apply the new position.

This serves as a shortcut to avoid constantly switching back and forth to the Move Tool.
