Reduce Colors
Use Reduce Colors to lower the number of colors used by selected voxels or Voxel Layers.
This is useful when you want to simplify color variation or create a more limited palette look.
Why This Matters
Sometimes a model uses more colors than it needs.
Reducing the number of colors can make the result feel cleaner, more stylized, or easier to manage.
It is especially useful when imported or heavily edited voxel data contains too much subtle color variation.
What Reduce Colors Does
Reduce Colors lowers the number of colors used by the selected voxels or selected Voxel Layers.
Use it for:
- Simplifying color variation.
- Creating a more limited palette look.
- Cleaning up overly noisy color usage.
- Making voxel art feel more graphic or stylized.
The operation remaps the affected voxel colors into a smaller set of colors.
How To Use It
To reduce colors:
- Select voxels or Voxel Layers.
- Go to Voxel > Filters > Reduce Colors.
- Set the number of colors to keep.
- Review the preview.
- Confirm the dialog.
The operation is applied to the selected voxel data.
Options
The dialog includes these main options.
Color Count
Color Count sets how many colors are kept.
Use a lower value for a stronger simplification effect.
Use a higher value when you want to preserve more color variation.
Hide Selection
Hide Selection hides the selection highlight in the preview.
Use this when the selection overlay makes it harder to judge the color reduction result.
When To Use Reduce Colors
Use Reduce Colors when you want:
- A tighter palette.
- Less subtle color noise.
- A more graphic or stylized result.
- Fewer colors in a selected region or layer.
- Cleaner imported voxel data.
- A simpler color base before further editing.
It is useful whenever the current color variation distracts from the shape or style of the model.
What To Remember
- Reduce Colors works on selected voxels or selected Voxel Layers.
- It lowers the number of colors used.
- Color Count controls how many colors are kept.
- Hide Selection can make the preview easier to judge.
- It is useful for palette simplification, cleanup, and stylization.
